Ron外国人特別研究員(COE)の研究業績について報告する。1.研究分担者Ron外国人特別研究員(COE)は、前近代日本の史料遺産プロジェクトの日本史グロッサリーデータベースプロジェクトに参加し、中世歴史用語、軍事史・武道史関係用語などについての英語の標準的用語の集成とデータベース化の検討を行った。ここでは約6000用語の編集・改訂を行い必要に応じて注釈を書き加えた。また、欧米における前近代日本学研究関連文献に見られる歴史用語・語彙の翻訳状況に関する情報収集【第5回国際研究集会(7月、史料編纂所)、プリンストン大学、コロンビア大学、イェール大学、ハーバード大学での意見交換会(10月)において、グロッサリーの紹介と、アメリカ日本学研究における前近代史・思想史用語・語彙の英語への翻訳状況について、意見交換することによって、より具体的なデータベース作成作業のための方針を立てることができた。2.中世政治社会史の国際的視角からの研究を、学位論文で取り組んだ鎌倉幕府と武士階級の宗教的編成の研究を一層展開して行った。また笠懸・流鏑馬・犬追物を例とする軍事関係の文化に関する様々な研究も行った。さらに、鎌倉幕府史料を国際的に情報発信する方策を他研究者のJMPグロッサリー編集を通して担当グロッサリーを作成した。3.新たに、中世後期の軍事史・武士史・武道史の研究のための史料を収集・分析した。特に甲州流軍学・島津家文書をとき武士の心得書として流布した「甲陽軍艦」の注釈的研究に取り組んだ。これらの史料は軍事組織における軍略や武芸・道具などの詳細な情報を提供しており、また中世軍事上要となる宗教についても研究した。軍隊を守衛するため及び敵軍の敗退のための密教儀式についても資料収集を行った。16世紀には弓矢・剣・槍・薙刀・鉄砲等の分類が系統立てて行われていた。4.「甲陽軍艦」の注釈・翻訳研究を行い、中世軍事史・武士史の重要史料の研究として論文にまとめた。「甲陽軍艦」の部分的翻訳及び、日記・軍記における翻訳は今後も継続して行われるであろう。海外の研究者にとって中世後期を理解する上で不可欠な戦国史料に関してはほとんど触れられていないのが現状であり、今後翻訳プロジェクトが継続してゆく事を希望5.鎌倉幕府研究、中世軍事史、武士史研究による歴史語彙・歴史用語の翻訳語集成の成果を日本史グロッサリーデータベースプロジェクトを通じて公開する予定である。
