1. The Research Commitee for Nature-based Experiential Learning, organized under the current project within this scientific research, drew up a midterm report entitled "General research on setting a training curriculum for leaders in nature-based experiential learning environmental education" and presented the midterm findings of the project report to those concerned. These included the Japanese Society of Environmental Education, the Japan Society for Science Education, and the presentation was tailored to be relevant as such.2. In order to make both a concrete and practical model in terms of local personnel training and application, the research mainly focused on the survey fields of Kiritappu Wetlands in Hamanaka Town, Kujiro (Hokkaido), a Tarumizu City community/nature school (Kagoshima), and a Yasuoka Village nature school (Nagano). Basic local area surveys and practical analyses were employed. Surveys further delved into practical case studies concerned with the need for competen … More cy by leaders in the development of general environmental education, and progress was made in the construction of a theoretical framework.3. In particular, a group conference was held periodically for researchers in the Tokyo area aiming for the construction of a curriculum that would unite science education and nature-experiential learning. Surveys were also done on practical case studies and actual curriculums employed in Costa Rica and Brazil.4. While working on research into the construction of leader-training and science education-uniting curriculums, the Research Commitee for Nature-based Experiential Learning held meetings at its convenience, continuing debate to measure the exchange and integration of research results in both groups. Conclusion : As the research results progressed, based on these four pillars, it became clear that there was high potential for making nature-based experential learning the main approach for putting into practice environmental education within the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) framework. 1.
