This study investigated the awakening of scientific cognition as seen in the activities of young. children in a natural environment.1. A questionnaire survey was conducted among kindergartens in Japan. As a result, it was found that most kindergartens would like to systematically include scientific activities in their child-care activities. It was also found most kindergartens are practicing the following four activities : "water color play " soap bubble play", "making mud balls", and " playing in the sand".2. The words of children during a daily child-care activities was analyzed. As a result, some words were found in each activity which could help raise scientific awareness. The words that could help raise scientific awareness during the "soap bubble play" differed between 4 and 5 year olds.3. Among 5 year olds, the "Playing with a paper car that moves when you blow on it "was a suitable learning tool to educate the awakening of science cognition itself. "Flour clay play, " water color play, " "soap bubble play, " "making mud balls, " "sand play" were suitable learning tools to raise the fundamental knowledge of wakening scientific cognition.4. In the case of parent-child classes held at the kindergarten, activities that are easy to prepare like "the paper cup that jumps up, " "the acorn balancing toy" and "soap bubble play" were suited to educate awakening scientific cognition.
