家庭血圧を用いた平均12年間の縦断的検討で、高血圧発症と関連する遺伝子多型が4つ同定され、交絡要因で補正後も、リスク多型の数に応じ高血圧発症リスクが増大した。若年女性の血圧値は月経周期によって変動し、月経期には血圧は高値を示した。妊婦の血圧は、季節要因で修飾され、その他の交絡要因で補正後も、高血圧家族歴や妊婦の母親の妊娠中の血圧レベルが妊婦の妊娠期間中の家庭血圧レベルと関連した。いずれの集団においても環境・遺伝要因の双方が血圧レベルに影響を及ぼしていた。
