项目摘要

日本人英語学習者のスピーキングにおける感情表現を観測し、米語母語話との比較を行うため、生成実験を実施した。日本人大学生10名(男性6名、女性4名)と米語母語話者(男女各1名)を被験者とし、2つの課題のもとに書かれた英文手紙をテープレターにするつもりで読んでもらい、録音した。感情表現の中でも愛情表現と哀悼表現に着目し、それらが第二言語と第一言語でどのように異なるかを観測するため、課題は「付き合って3年目の記念日に恋人に渡すラブレター」と「大学入学前にとてもお世話になった先生が亡くなったことについて、先生の家族に送るお悔やみの手紙」とした。日本人被験者は全て海外滞在経験のない大学生で、英語能力はTOEICにおいて平均が484点(280点〜650点)であり、米語母語話者は英語教材の録音を担当するプロのナレーターであった。音声資料において、音声分析ソフトを用いて音声波形、スペクトログラム、イントネーションカーブを作成し、米語母語話者が強調している語を分析語とした。日本人被験者の各分析語のピッチ高低差、持続時間、強度を測定し、米語母語話者のものと比較、分析を行った結果、日本人被験者は米語母語話者に比べて、ピッチの高低差が少なく、持続時間が短かいが、強度は高いことが観測された。このことから、日本人英語学習者はピッチの高低差と持続時間の不足部分を強度で補おうとしていることが示唆された。また、男性よりも女性において英語母語話者に近い音響特徴が観測され、女性の方が英語における感情表現の習得が進んでいることも示唆された。さらに日本人の音声資料に関して、単音、プロソディ、感情表現、全体的印象を4人の英語母語話者(男女各2名)にそれぞれ評価してもらった結果、ラブレターよりもお悔やみの手紙の方が高い評価を得た。このことから、日本人英語学習者は愛情表現よりも哀悼表現において習得が進んでいることが示唆された。
