軽度認知症のリスク要因として、加齢と脳画像診断のMRI検査における大脳白質病変が、より早期の軽度認知機能障害のリスクとして、加齢、女性、運動不足が見出された。特に、大脳白質病変が中等度以上にある場合、そうでない場合と比較して約9倍だけ軽度認知症のリスクを高めていた。
