中員環エーテル構造を含む多官能基化された単環性或いは多環性天然物は, 西ナイル熱やマラリアを媒介する蚊の幼虫の高い殺幼虫活性など, 興味ある生理活性を有する。これら多官能性中員環エーテル構造の立体選択的構築法として, ヒドロキシエポキシドの位置および立体選択的閉環反応を開発し, 天然物合成に応用した。その結果, 中員環エーテルを含む特異な2環性骨格を有するIsolaureatinの全合成に成功し, また, ポリ環状エーテル化合物であるHemibrevetoxin Bの基本骨格の構築に成功した。
