Study on the method of using local rail way as valuableinfrast ructure in regi on area

据说，实现紧凑型城市的关键之一是发展非常便利的公共交通，但这方面的定量分析还不充分。在本研究中，首先调查了日本各地方城市的铁路和有轨电车的运输频率和人口分布随时间的变化。然后，调查了整个城市或人口密集地区铁路或有轨电车车站的频率水平与车站周围人口分布的关系。

It is said that one of the important keys to realize a compact city is to develop very convenient public transportation, but quantiati veanal yses for that are inadequate. In this study, at first, the transportation frequencies over rail ways and tramways and change sin the distribution of population of all local cities in Japan over time were investigated. Then, the relationship between the level of requencies of stations in rail ways or tramways and the distri bution of the population around the stations in a whole city or in densely inhabited distrits was investi gated.
