Previously, it is known that the neuronal cell of the hippocampus drops out selectively by whole brain ischemia for a short time. It is clear that triggered by the activation of the intracellular protease such as calpain, cathepsins B, and L in this neuronal cell death. In the present study, the protective activity in the neuronal cell death at in vivo by the protein and the amino acid nutrition was examined by rat's ischemia. As a result, cysteine intake was demonstrated to inhibit the activation of the intracellular proteases, but even the maintenance of the nerve tissue at the histological analysis and the maintenance of the memory and the learning ability were not able to find the effect.
