幕末から明治初期にかけて漢詩文著作がいかなる意義を持ったか、具体的にどのように行われたかといった問題に照明を当てるために、成島柳北の詩文的な交流を中心に調べることにした。国立国会図書館の鶚軒文庫に所蔵されている柳北と交流を持った詩人の原稿を題材に、柳北との詩文上のつながりを明らかにした。周知のとおり柳北は、維新後にジャーナリズムという新しい分野で活躍したが、幕府の瓦解まで培った詩人のネットワークはいかなる変遷を辿ったかということを確認するのに、『朝野新聞』及び『花月新誌』の詩文を調べた。その調査によって明らかになったことをただいま発表にむけて執筆しているところである。また、柳北の代表的な作品である『柳橋新誌』及び『航西日乗』の英訳をまとめ、注釈をつけて出版することができた。この二つの作品をより広い文学史的な文脈に位置づけるために、『柳橋新誌』と同じ「繁昌記物」なるジャンルに入る松本萬年著作の『田舎繁昌記-文明餘誌』との比較を試みた。研究成果をアメリカのアジア研究協会のフィラデルフィアに行われた2010年の総会で発表した。また遊郭のことを漢詩文に取り入れた前例として、市河寛斎の『北里歌』が挙げられるが、中国及び日本における「竹枝詞」というジャンルの意義も含めて、祇園南海の『江南歌』など竹枝詞の前例との比較を試みた。その研究成果をアジア研究協会のホノルルに行われた2011年の総会で発表した。

From the end of the curtain to the early Meiji period, the meaning of Han poetry and prose works can be maintained, the specific issues can be clarified, and the poetry exchange center in Liubei, Narushima, can be adjusted. The National Assembly Library has a collection of poems and essays. The poem of "Liu Bei" and "Hua Yue Xin Zhi" was confirmed by the author of "Liu Bei" and "Hua Yue Xin Zhi". The investigation was carried out in a timely manner. The representative works of Liu Bei are "Liu Qiao Xin Zhi" and "Hang Xi Ri". A comparative study of the works of Matsumoto Wannian and his works of "Tian Yi Fan Chang Ji-Civilization Yu Zhi" is conducted in the context of literary history. The research results were presented at the 2010 Conference of the Research Association of China. The meaning of "Bamboo Branch Ci" in Chinese poetry includes the comparison between the precedents of "Jiangnan Song" in China and Japan. The results of this research were presented at the 2011 Conference of the Research Association.
