The study of social centralisation and hierarchisation in the process of state formation by applying formal network analysis methods

本研究旨在运用形式网络分析方法，探讨日本列岛和不列颠群岛的国家形成过程。结果表明：1)在日本列岛，通过人员、货物和信息的流动形成的网络域是稳定的，并且通过差异中心性的出现实现了政体间关系的整合和层次化；2)英伦三岛由于其地形和与威望和主要商品来源的联系不断变化，形成的网络域相当不稳定，政体间关系的整合和等级化薄弱且不稳定。

The objective of this study was to investigate the process of state formation in Japanese Archipelago and British Isles by applying formal network analysis methods. The outcomes are as follows:1) In Japanese Archipelago, the network domain which was formed through the flow of people, goods and information was stable, and the integration and hierarchisation of inter-polity relations through the emergence of differential centralities were possible; 2) in British Isles, the network domain formed was quite unstable because of its topography and changing connections to the source of prestige and staple goods, and the integration and hierarchisation of inter-polity relations were weak and unstable.
