前年度にひきつづき、国立科学博物館所蔵の自然史標本のうちから選ばれた、情報化に適した標本群について、データベース構築とその利用方法に関する研究を進め、予定された研究の完了と取りまとめを行った。情報処理機器としては8台のパーソナルコンピュータおよびミニコンピュータを使用し、外部記憶装置としてフロッピーディスク装置のほか7台の20Mバイトのハードディスク装置を活用した。ソフトウェアーとしては、各標本群に適した必要な情報の特性に応じて、前年度までに作成したBASIC言語による処理プログラムのほか、既成の簡易言語も使用した。処理プログラムには、ファイルのデータを容易に訂正・追加できるように、新たにエディターを開発して組み込んだ。これらを使用して各標本群につき分散処理を行った。対象標本群のうち、海棲哺乳類については簡易言語dBASE【II】による処理が便利であることが確かめられ、これを用いてファイル入力を完了し、また多毛類についてはPIPSを用いてさらにファイルを充実した。これらはカタログとして出力した。古脊椎動物、古人骨については、作成した処理プログラムを用いて大量の詳細な情報を含むファイル入力をを進めた。これらの標本ファイルはそれぞれ標本の検索、研究上必要な情報の抽出、ソーティングによるカタログの作成などの目的に対して利用価値が高いことが確かめられた。研究目的の一つであるシソーラスの作成では、前年度までに作った3種のシソーラスのうち、鳥類名シソーラスのファイルをさらに充実した。本研究で明らかになったパーソナルコンピュータを主体とするデータベース構築の有効性、望ましい情報処理方式、問題点などの研究結果を取りまとめたので、全国的利用のため報告書を印刷配布する。

This study is intended to provide information processing methods, problems, and research results for the printing and distribution of a report on the use of information throughout the country.
