Abstract The CNPRC is submitting a proposal Alterations and Renovations of Animal Building 5012 to replace a damaged room floor and for the purchase of heated perch bars for six outdoor pens. These outdoor pens will facilitate socialization of SPF juvenile animals year round in the pens. The animal building, 5012, was constructed in 2006 and is used for housing of animals on infectious disease studies, particularly HIV/SIV studies. This building has the capacity to house approximately 80 animals on study and the lack of availability of this housing structure has a significant impact on the conduct of HIV/SIV studies. The shortage of indoor animal housing space for HIV/SIV has the impact of delaying SIV studies. The floor of this building has deteriorated and must be removed, the substructure replaced and a new concrete floor put in place. The cost of this renovation will be approximately $314,000. The perches for the outdoor pens will facilitate housing of juvenile macaques in these pens year round. The socialization of these SPF juveniles will help produce more animals for HIV/SIV research. The cost of this renovation will be $68,900.
