项目摘要

Abstract The CNPRC is submitting a proposal Alterations and Renovations of Animal Building 5013 to replace a damage room floor and for the purchases of an outdoor pen for housing breeding rhesus macaques. The animal building, 5013 was constructed in 2006 and is used for housing of animals on infectious disease studies, particularly HIV/SIV studies. This building has the capacity to house approximately 80 animals on study and the lack of availability of this housing structure has a significant impact on the conduct of HIV/SIV studies. The shortage of indoor animal housing space for HIV/SIV has the impact of delaying SIV studies. The floor of this building has deteriorated and must be removed, the substructure replaced and a new concrete floor put in place. The cost of this renovation will be approximately $314,000. The outdoor pen replacement is for an enclosure used to house approximately 30 rhesus macaques in harem breeding groups to produce animals for HIV/SIV research. The current structure is unusable due to rusted panels and compromised supporting structures. The funding is requested to purchase a replacement enclosure to benefit animal welfare. The cost of this renovation will be $30,051.
