英文摘要
The development of the shell vial (SV) assay has greatly decreased the time to laboratory detection of many viruses in clinical specimens. Optimal conditions for the assay have been reported to be low-speed centrifugation of SV cultures, we examine whether an increased g-force of 3500xg and concomitant decreased spin time of 15 min. effect detection of viruses by the SV assay, potential specimen toxicity to the cell monolayer, and integrity of the cell monolayer. Over 300 clinical specimens will be collected and divided into 2 groups. One group will be spun at the higher speed and one group at the lower speed, and a comparison will be made of the culture results by each of the methods.
