项目摘要
This project will examine four Chinese feminist translations of Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own(hereafter AROO) from 1929 to 2021 in relation to the socio-historical context in which they werepublished and the performative approach adopted by different translators. Scholarly publicationsdiscussing the translation of Western philosophical feminist texts into the Chinese context have mostlyfocused on the influence that Western discourses had in the target system (Yu 2015; Min 2017).However, little attention has been paid to the influence that Chinese feminism and the translators'ideologies have inevitably had on the recontextualisation of these Western publications for them to servelocal feminist agendas. My project will address this research gap by answering the following research questions: (1) how hasAROO been performatively translated in different editions considered in my corpus in line with thetranslators' feminist agendas? (2) how have different translators recontextualised this Western feministtext in different times? (3) to what extent might have the translators been influenced by their sociohistorical contexts when making translation decisions?
