ACCORD MEMORY IN DIABETES (MIND) SUB-STUDY

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Memory tests will be performed once every two years, for a total of three times, and MRI scans will be performed two times during the study. ACCORD participants will be studied to determine if intensive therapy will reduce or increase the risks of memory impairment and daily functioning when compared to the standard treatment protocol. Earlier studies indicate that individuals with type 2 diabetes are more likely than others to experience decline in memory. It is not known how intensive treatment of diabetes affects memory.
