PROVIDED. The specific aim of Palmer's Administrative Core is to initiate a new R01-type and 2 new R21-type projects that are extensions of the goals of the currently successful multidisciplinary research center at this CAM institution. The overarching goal is to explore and understand the physiological and biomechanical mechanisms of chiropractic spinal manipulation. The Administration Core will establish and Chair the Internal Steering Committee, collaborate with NCCAM Program Officers to establish and interact with the External Advisory Committee, be the primary liaison with the Scientific Advisor appointed by NCCAM, allocate, manage and control grant funds using good business practices, and provide institutional resources and decisions to support the Center. It will oversee and coordinate all 3 projects and will oversee relations with the Office of Data Management and Biostatistics Core included in the Center. It will be responsible for dayto- day administration as well as ongoing evaluation of the center program. The Administration Core will focus on methods of communication and knowledge sharing among collaborating investigators and institutions to ensure scientific synergy, or that the "whole is greater than the sum of the parts." Finally, the Administration Core will cause the development and submission of additional competitive RO1 and other research project and program grants to expand the human and physical resources of the Center. In summary, the overarching purpose of the Administration Core is to provide leadership to establish the long-term viability and excellence of chiropractic and CAM related research at a CAM institution.
