PHASE IIaResearchers at McGill have developed a handheld plasma tool with a mobile control unit optimized for precise bio-applications (APGD-t). This device has already been shown to; safely detaching living cells from a cell culture surface without necrosis and modify plastic and glass surfaces for precise biological patterning. The group has also discovered that the plasma jet is capable of permeabilizing living cells. Funds are being sought to investigate permeabilization applications of the APGD-t to provide scientific evidence of the advantages of our device and define the potential market. The target markets are testing, research and medical laboratories. Once proven, the scope of this technology will be expanded to the clinical market for local drug treatment and local gene therapy.
