The objectives of the proposed research are to investigate both analytically and experimentally the dynamic behavior of mechanical systems, both large and microdimensionally small, including the dynamics of rotating components. Vibration and noise problems are an integral part of the operation of industrial machines, and pose serious problems affecting their operation, the working environment and production.The proposed studies include: (i) Dynamic response analysis and stability studies of industrial and aerospace structures. (ii) Response of structures to acoustic loading and noise transmission studies in aircraft fuselages, and automobile cabins.(iii) Vibration problems in drilling and deep hole machining, active control of boring and drilling bar  vibrations. (iv) Shimmy dynamics and control of shimmy vibrations in aircraft landing gears. (v)Vibrations and instabilities in the hydraulic piping networks, including divergence and flutter type of instabilities in the pipe systems. (vi) Design, analysis and development of thermoacoustic cooling devices. (vii) Dynamics of MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) and Optical MEMS devices subjected to electrostatic fields, including boundary conditioning of the devices using the MEMS fabrication techniques.The scientific approaches for the above studies are:(i) Classical energy methods along with Boundary Characteristic Orthogonal Polynomials coupled with variational formulations.(ii) Finite Element Method, whenever it is difficult to obtain solutions using the classical and approximate methods. (iii) Numerical solutions and simulations  to solve problems involving nonlinear differential equations, simultaneous solution of linear and nonlinear differential equations encountered in problems involving coupled  dynamics. The analytical studies will be validated using experimental investigations.HQP (Highly Qualified Personnel) Training at the Masters and Doctoral levels will be an integral part of the above research.
