The study of proteins and enzymes is an important aspect of scientific investigation that can lead to a better understanding of catalysis and life processes. This fundamental understanding can have a real contribution to the development of new treatments for a variety of diseases. In order to accomplish these goals, various instruments are needed to study these molecules. One important instrument is that of the ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer. This instrument will allow for the measurement of the rates of enzyme catalyzed reactions and also aid in the study of inhibitors that might be useful in blocking the activity of an enzyme.
