Three research programs (Yudin, Taylor, and Winnik) are in desperate need of a preparative HPLC system in order to cope with the challenging problems of separating highly polar peptide- and oligosaccharide molecules. The proposed unit will be located in the Yudin laboratory. The Taylor and Winnik students will have unencumbered access to the instrument and will contribute to supplies and maintenance of the unit. We request funding for a 1260 Agilent prep HPLC system. There is no comparable unit in our Department. If we obtain funding for this new instrument, we anticipate that it will work side-by-side with our AAPPTEC peptide synthesizer. These instruments will be operated 24 hours a day and will have automatic control of sample delivery and product collection. We will jointly fund maintenance contracts for the prep HPLC.
