Frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) chemistry is a new paradigm for synthetic and catalytic chemistry. Te- containing heterocycles have lead to the development of new classes of highly desirable photo-active and electro-active materials. These areas have been pioneered by both Stephan and Seferos. In this proposal, the diverse advances made by Stephan and Seferos are merged to target facile and new synthetic routes to unprecedented Te-based molecules and materials. The synthesis, characterization, and properties of these compounds will be determined. We are specifically interested in using these compounds as reagents. Additionally, the team plans to extend Te-Based FLP chemistry to polymers, leading to new classes of and photo-addressable and electronic materials.
