Stream Technologies has a patented system used for hyperspectral imaging which relies on precise control of
layers of alternating high and low index materials, creating a series of planar waveguides. The assembly is
dependent on an adhesive; however, the adhesive's refractive index must be matched to the glass (1.77), for the
technology to function. Stream's application demands that the bond between the prisms is permanent, therefore,
an adhesive/epoxy is needed to permanently bond the two prisms. The objective of this proposal is to develop a
new adhesive for Stream's application that has a refractive index closer to the required 1.77 value. Furthermore,
the adhesive should be easy to use, stable over a wide temperature range, and yield a defect-free bond between
the prisms. Stream would also like an adhesive that is easy to spread on the prism surfaces, curable in air or
upon exposure to UV light or elevated temperature, has a long shelf life, and transmits wavelengths of 400 nm
- 2 microns well.
