Canadian Solar Solution Inc. (Canadian Solar) is an Ontario-based company, and global market leader, which manufactures solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and provides solar energy solutions globally. Through this project, Seneca College researchers will utilize a commercially available and most commonly sold Canadian Solar PV (solar) panel as a base to design, fabricate and test a building-integrated photovoltaic/thermal (BIPV/T) system. The project will provide a practical demonstration of the issues and challenges faced in the design and fabrication of BIPV/T systems, ultimately providing Canadian Solar with design documents and a fully tested prototype which can be used for scale up, manufacture and sale. Canadian Solar will expand their existing product line to include a new technology which is demanded by their customers and will help them maintain a market leadership positon. Seneca students will gain practical experience in an emerging sector where strong opportunities for employment exist and the College will acquire new knowledge which will be integrated to the teaching curriculum.
