Giftgowns, a Toronto, Ontario based company, manufactures and sells comfortable, stylized hospital gowns for consumers to bring with them to the hospital or give as a gift to friends or loved ones staying in the hospital. The goal for this research collaboration is to develop an antimicrobial fabric treatment using nanotechnology to encapsulate naturally sourced herbal extracts, or more specifically, nanoencapuslated essential oils (EO). The resulting product will be an environmentally conscientious, antimicrobial hospital gown, suited to medical environments that will make Giftgowns a market leader. Dr. Siyam Subair, a part time faculty within Seneca's School of Biological Sciences and Applied Chemistry (BSAC), will lead the project, supported a student Research Assistant (RA).
