项目摘要

Sussex Research Laboratories Inc. is a specialty chemicals company in Ottawa, Ontario that is an expert in**synthesis and characterization of carbohydrate-based systems and stable isotope-labeled molecules. Founded in**1996, Sussex has been expanding their product lines, contract manufacturing, and custom synthesis and**characterization mainly serving the research and pharmaceutical fields. When they discovered that their**proprietary glycopeptide GlycolastinTM was shown to have anti-aging and anti-wrinkle properties, it was an**opportunity to expand into the cosmetics market.**Sussex is partnering with Seneca to develop cosmetics formulations of an eye cream, face cream, and facial**serum incorporating GlycolastinTM that meet the market requirements of pure white colour, excellent feel on the**skin, and pleasant odour. The project will draw from the talent of students trained in Senecas Cosmetic Sciences**Graduate Certificate program, under the guidance of Professor Sharon Robertson, to overcome the challenges of**creating new, high-end formulations incorporating a novel active ingredient. This work will cover the steps from**understanding the relevant properties of GlycolastinTM, creating the formulations, testing for look, feel, and longterm**stability, and initial scale-up work. These new formulations will enable Sussex to enter the cosmetics market**and through initial licensing deals will be able to fund the development of further cosmeceutical actives and**become an established brand in the cosmetics marketplace.
