Based in Ontario, DTS Technical Inc. is one of North America's premier design and implementation firmsserving the telecommunications industry. DTS is a privately-owned company which offers professionalheadend equipment installation, cabling, AC and DC powering, and live cutover services. DTS providesnetwork facilities engineering and implementation services including analysis, design andconstruction/installation of cable tray, framing, utility pool and other support structures. Currently company isfacing challenges in analysis and designing support structural systems made of commercially availablestructural elements because of lack of knowledge on strength properties and their performance under serviceconditions. DTS is currently seeking to address this challenge by developing expertise in analyzing, designingand installing robust support structures for utility systems by demonstrating performance through research &development. The objective of this project is to design robust and more efficient new or repaired supportstructures (in terms of better structural performance, service life and economy) for utility system throughdeveloping improved analysis tools and design specifications by incorporating mechanical properties (such asstrength and deformation characteristics) of commercially available component parts (new, deteriorated andrepaired states) through experimental and theoretical/code based investigations. The completion of this projectwill give DTS a competitive advantage (leading to boosting revenue and job creation in the long-term) throughdeveloping expertize in the analysis and design of more efficient support structures for utility systems. Thiswork will also enable DTS to build confidence and promote understanding for its clients, engineers, and localauthorities in Canada, when providing construction/installation services. By supporting this research, Canadacan play a significant role in assisting a Canadian company (DTS) to develop expertise, build confidence andpromote understanding for its clients in providing construction/installation of utility services as well ascontributing to the training of highly qualified personnel (HQP).
