Activation Laboratories Ltd. (Actlabs) is a multinational analytical testing laboratory providing services to the mining, life sciences, agriculture, materials and forensics industries with headquarters located in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. Currently, Actlabs uses an older version of PHP and MySQL to achieve a support site that is still interdependent on the older LIMS systems. This poses a challenge for Actlabs as the legacy information systems suffer from typical uses of being disjoined, not being able to meet the ever-growing customer demands and users suffering from long wait times.With Actlabs supporting the world with over 25 laboratories in 12 countries, there has been a strong need to transition to a fully developed digital platform - a system that is usable globally to organize their processes and data on a global scale.Actlabs has approached Lambton College's Information Technology and Communication Research Centre (ITCRC) to develop a Laboratory Information Management System (Digital Platform - LIMS 4) to manage samples and associated data. This system will provide automated workflows, integrated instruments and sample management. The success of this project will provide Actlabs with a digital platform that is scalable to improve efficiencies and has full functional integration with Actlabs information/sample flow to improve the data integrity. It will also allow Actlabs to deploy to any location with minimal customization required.
