英文摘要
This project directly addresses the challenges in the next generations of digital circuits and systems, namely, the requirements for high energy efficiency and superior performance, by developing low-power and high-performance hardware modules as intellectual property (IP) cores. The target applications include digital signal processing (DSP), 5G communication networks, and artificial intelligence systems. To achieve this goal, the project will exploit the results of recent scientific research and advance the promising discoveries to the development of working demonstrations of circuit modules. This development will significantly advance the Technology Readiness Level (from 2 to 4) and provide a solid basis for future commercialization.
This project also provides an outstanding training environment for HQP. The gained training will equip HQP with important and critical technical skills, as well as professional skills including communication, collaboration, leadership and entrepreneurship toward the objective of commercialization. Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are our top considerations in the team composition and training process. People from all identities and backgrounds are encouraged to join this project. In our team, everyone is equitably treated with respect and offered equal opportunities, regardless of sex, gender, nationality and other identity factors.
The outcomes of this project will help bridge the gap between the conventional Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry and emerging industries such as 5G communications, multimedia, and artificial intelligence. The achievement of the project goal will lead to more environmentally friendly ICT systems and help resolve key challenges in reducing the carbon footprint in the ICT industry. It will also help create job opportunities, foster the ICT industry in Alberta and Canada in emerging technologies. As a key milestone on the commercialization path, the completion of the proposed developments in this project will potentially have a profound impact on the long-term growth of the economy and will be of significant social and environmental importance to Alberta and Canada.
