This proposed research program addresses the current Canadian healthcare challenges and closely aligns our efforts and initiatives with the leading health technology trends. In response to the demand from our industry partners, we aim to develop tools and solutions for safe health technology applications that will result in valuable products and services for their patients and clients. Three of Sheridan's research centers will join forces in this research program; the Centre for Mobile Innovation (CMI), the Centre for Elder Research (CER), and the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT). We will combine Information and Communications Technology (ICT), health and wellness, and manufacturing expertise from our leading healthcare researchers and practitioners to focus on two research themes: Mobile Health (mHealth), and Health and Machine Learning (ML). These themes reflect the needs of existing, new and forthcoming partners who are part of Sheridan's research network and have the potential to significantly impact local, provincial and Canadian economic recovery. Through this program, we will leverage advanced technologies, including intelligent and immersive software platforms and sophisticated manufacturing tools as part of mHealth product and app development workflow. We will work with our partners and support them to better identify, understand and interact with their target users through structured testing, implementation and usability studies. Up to 70 students will be trained on using state-of-the-art technologies, tools and methodologies. This program will support job creation through HQP training for the Canadian workforce. Furthermore, we will capitalize on our strong relationship with local and regional Economic Development Offices in the Sheridan area (Oakville, Mississauga, and Brampton). This research program is expected to improve production pipeline applications for the healthcare industries from concept to delivery. The key economic benefits include: 1)?cost savings to Canadian healthcare systems; 2) supporting the growth of our business partners through job creation and increasing their market share; and 3)?contributing to advanced student training.
