Cohort study of asbestos workers with special reference to type, size, and number of exposed fiber.

通过一项中国石棉厂的病例对照研究，我们发现高暴露的非吸烟工人肺癌发病率升高了5倍，而低暴露的吸烟者肺癌发病率升高了3倍。然而，当工人吸烟并暴露在高水平的石棉中时，它会上升到10倍以上，这表明两者对肺癌的协同作用。在一例男性间皮瘤肺组织中，很少发现温石棉，而绝大多数是低物质中几乎不存在的透闪石。

By a case-control study within a cohort of an asbestos plant in China, we found 5 times elevation of the incidence of lung cancer among high exposed non-smoking workers but it was 3 times for smokers with low asbestos exposure. However, it elevated to more than10 times when workers smoke and exposed to high level of asbestos suggesting the synergistic effects of the two for lung cancer. In the lung tissue of a male mesothelioma case, chrysotile was seldom found, whereas vast majority was tremolite which scarcely existed in the low material.
