A Cultural Study of the Iconography of the Bon religion in Tibet

本课题旨在对西藏邦教图像学进行全面的研究。为此，我详尽地收集了邦教的图像资料，包括图像和文献。我还建立了在互联网上提供这些信息的数据库，并澄清了邦教图像的系统。最后，建立了藏学邦教图像学研究的新学术领域。通过这些学术活动，提高了日本东方艺术研究学者和藏学学者至今忽视的邦教图像学研究的水平。

This project aims to make a full-scale research of the iconography of the Bon religion in Tibet. For this purpose, I exhaustively collected the iconographic materials of the Bon religion which include both images and literatures. I also constructed the database which provides this information on the internet, and I clarified the system of the iconography of the Bon religion. Finally I established a new academic field of the iconographic study of the Bon religion in Tibetan studies. Through these academic activities, I raised the standards of the iconographic study of the Bon religion which has been overlooked by the scholars in Oriental art studies as well as Tibetan studies in Japan so far.
