Funds are requested for the purchase of an ultra-low temperature freezer.  This freezer will be used for the storage of biological samples at ultra-low temperatures. Temperatures in the range of -80oC are needed for the conservation of unique collections of plant tissues, microorganisms, antibodies, purified proteins and metabolites extracted from transgenic plants.  The requested apparatus is needed to replace a similar equipment that serves as a common facility and which was acquired in the 1980s.  This freezer now has fallen in disrepair. Its age and condition do not justify investing in any more costly repairs.
