Camosun College is entering into its first applied research partnership with CryoLogistics Refrigeration Technologies Ltd, a company developing a passive transport refrigeration unit for shipping temperature sensitive food and pharmaceutical products at sub-zero temperatures using Dry Ice (frozen CO2) as its cold source. CryoLogistics' pallet-scale unit can fit easily into the existing food-chain shipping environment. The concept has been validated by industry stakeholders across North America by 'customer discovery' interviews. Using Dry Ice as the shipping container's cold source is an economical carbon neutral technology that, with time, will replace the energy intensive and expensive diesel-powered refrigeration units installed into reefer trucks today. This project will add an important step along CryoLogistics' path to providing consistent and controllable product shipping temperatures by developing a means by which their cold shipping containers can have passive thermostatic control.
