Camosun College is pleased to announce that Camosun Innovates will be partnering on an applied researchproject with Con-cur West Inc., a Coquitlam-based plumbing equipment supplier. Con-cur West, providesplumbing and pipefitting equipment and supplies in western Canada, including backflow preventers whichprevent contaminated water from flowing into municipal water supplies. With support from the NaturalSciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) on a level 2 Applied Research and Development grant,Con-cur West will be able to provide a product that can detect failure or tampering with backflow preventers, improving the security of municipal water supplies.Having already completed a proof of concept design. This project will focus on design refinements, advancedtesting, and preparation for manufacturing. Backflow preventers are used throughout the water supply systemto prevent contamination. This remotely monitored system will improve water security and make problemdetection easy and fast. The project will involve students from Camosun College who will gain valuable reallife skills and expertise while working on the development of new innovative technology.
