Camosun College is pleased to announce that Camosun Applied Research and Innovation (CARI) through Camosun Technology Access Centre (CTAC) will be partnering with Quaternion Aerospace Inc., a Victoria, British Columbia based R&D and consulting company that focuses on innovative Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV - also known as UAS, Drones) and related subsystems. This partnership will involve a 2 year, level III, ARD grant with Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). This project will involve the following: (1) Design and full instrumentation of a flying platform capable of exhibiting a highly nonlinear structural response, to accurately capture and process the structural and aerodynamic response. These unconventional test aircraft will require custom avionics and controls which will increase the innovative potential in terms of technology and know-how currently being implemented in unmanned aircraft; (2) Development of highly modular and customizable airframe test rigs that will be available to Canadian companies and academic institutions active in the Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) market. A 2013 study conducted by the Teal Group Corporation on UAS's, predicted that the UAS market will increase to $89 billion in the next ten years from the current expenditures of $5.2 billion annually. Quaternion Aerospace Inc. is set to play an important role in this exciting new sector. Camosun College offers over 160 degree, diploma and other credential programs to more than 10,000 full-time, and another 3,000 part-time, students in beautiful Victoria, BC. The college has educated and prepared more than 50,000 graduates to excel in the marketplace in its 40-year history, and has an annual local economic impact of $816.6 million.
