GaN nanorod light emitters attract increasing interest in the recent past due to their unique structural, optical and electronic properties. The main advantages inherent to nanorod systems are especially interesting for applications in solid state lighting. By recent progress in materials growth, good control on the fabrication of these 3D nanoLED structures could be obtained, even though open questions concerning growth mechanisms still exist.For small nanorod diameters the evanescent part of the electromagnetic mode outside of the nanorod will be able to efficiently interact with its immediate environment. The goal of this project is (in close collaboration with the partners) to establish the underlying technology to control both the GaN nanorod structures including their immediate environment, with the goal to study their interaction in detail and finally to implement new functionality.
