研究課題を遂行するために、カンボジアのデータを用いて、母親の教育が子供に対する予防行動に与える因果効果を検証した。多くの途上国で女性の地位向上が課題となっている。また、女性が教育を受けることは、女性の地位向上だけでなく次世代にも良い影響を与えることが注目されいる。本研究では、東南アジアの中でも女性の地位が低いカンボジアのデータを用いて、母親の教育が子供に対する予防行動与える因果効果を検証した。それにより、カンボジアにおいて女性の教育を推進する政策が次世代の子供の健康状態を向上させるかに答える。母親の教育が予防行動に与える影響を分析する際には、遺伝や非認知能力といった観測できない要因によって内生性の問題が生じる可能性がある。本研究では、1970年から続いた内戦の停戦以降、カンボジアの教育環境が急激に改善したことに着目し、内戦前後の差を利用した教育効果の検証を行った。分析の結果、母親の教育年数が長くなれば予防行動をとる確率が高まることが示された。この教育効果は貧しい家庭でより強い。また、初等教育に比べて中等教育の教育効果が大きい。カンボジアにおいて貧しい家庭の女性に中等教育を推進する政策は、次世代の子供の健康を改善するという長期効果を持つことが示唆される。カンボジアは女性の教育水準が低く、社会的地位も低い。子供の健康状態も必ずしも良くない。このような国において、女性の教育の価値を検証する意義は大きいと考えている。本研究はセミナー等で報告を行っており、近日中に学術誌に投稿する予定である。

The research topic is to investigate the causes and consequences of child education. The status of women in the country is rising.
