本研究においては、クリティカル・サービスラーニングやボランティア・ツーリズムの学術的蓄積を参考にすることによって、「クリティカル・ボランティアリング」という新たな概念を提唱することをまず大きな目標としている。そして、エピソディック・ボランティアの語りも分析しつつ、その概念に基づいたコーディネート実践を試行し、その有用可能性を検討することを達成目標としている。研究期間2年目の本年度は、現在のエピソディック・ボランティアの意識実態を解明するため、その経験者への半構造的インタビュー調査の実施（調査①）と、クリティカル・ボランティアリング概念応用実践を目的としたサービスラーニング実践を対象としたアクションリサーチ（調査②）を行うこととしていた。それらの研究は順次行ってきているが、とりわけ調査②について、研究協力者の力を得ながら、大学の授業実践においてエスノグラフィー的研究を実施することができた。そこでは、大学生の政治参加セルフ・エフィカシーと社会参加セルフ・エフィカシーとを、サービスラーニング型授業を通じてどのように高めることが出来るのか、という調査目的をもって、ある大学の実習授業へ研究協力者が参加する形で行われた。研究倫理上の配慮として、 調査への協力は成績評価に関わらないことを受講生に十分に周知したうえで、好評に際しての情報の取り扱いなども文面にて告知し、調査参加者の合意をサインしてもらうことで得て行った。同調査の仮説は、既存の量的調査の結果を踏まえた仮説に基づいたものであったが、結果としてある程度、先行研究の結果を支持するものとなり、またサービスラーニング型授業を行う上での実践的示唆を与えるものであった。また、サービスラーニングの効果に関するシステマティック・レビュー研究も、同時に本年度は進めた。
