本年度は昨年に収集・分析した一次史料および研究文献から得られた知見を総合し、古代ギリシア・ローマ世界の「衰退」をめぐる言説のあり方に一定の回答を導きだすことを計画していた。研究成果としては、2018年12月に京都大学で開催された古代史研究会第17回大会にて、研究分担者のCarlos Heredia-Chimenoが口頭発表した内容をもとにした論文が、学術雑誌に掲載された。また、本年度は、11月30日および12月1日に国際研究集会（“Decline Narratives in Times of Change: The Late Roman Republican and Early Imperial Explanation”、於・京都大学）の開催にむけ、海外からの招聘研究者とも連絡を取り合い、詳細な発表プログラムも準備した。研究代表者は“A Decline Narrative of a Near Eastern Kingdom: The Median History in Nicolaus of Damascus’ Universal History”、研究分担者（外国人特別研究員）は“Appian and the analysis of Saturninus’ period: an example of a decline narrative?”であった。また海外からは、英国からグラスゴー大学のCatherine Steel教授、およびユニヴァーシティ・カレッジ・ロンドンのValentina Arena博士、そのほか日本国内からも複数の研究者が登壇予定であった。本国際研究集会の成果は、論文集としての刊行を目指し、フランスのボルドー大学出版局とも交渉をおこなっていた。しかし、本研究期間の短縮にともない、本科研費による上記の国際研究集会はすべて取りやめとなった。

This year's collection of historical data and research literature has been combined with the "decline" of the ancient world. The results of the research were published in December 2018 at the 17th Conference of the Kyoto University. Carlos Hedia-Chimeno, the research co-author, presented the contents of the paper. This year, the International Research Conference ("Decline Narratives in Times of Change: The Late Roman Republican and Early Imperial Explanation") will be held on November 30 and December 1. The research representative replied "A Decline Narrative of a Near Eastern Kingdom: The Median History in Nicolaus of Damascus 'Universal History" and the research contributor (Special Fellow for Foreigners) replied "Appian and the analysis of Saturninus' period: an example of a decline narrative?"であった。Dr. Catherine Steel from the University of England, Dr. Valentina Arena from the University of England, Dr. Catherine Steel from the The results of this international research conference will be published in the journal of the University Press. The research period was shortened, and the research fee was recorded at the International Research Conference.
