The concept of the decline of Islamic cultures since the 11th century has immediate cultural and political consequences up to the present day, because a constructive engagement with one's own culture and history is often replaced by the desire for a return to a "Golden Age". In the meantime, it has become clear that the Mamluk period (1250-1517) was a heyday of Arabic literature and that Ibn Nubātah (1287-1366), generally regarded as its most important literary figure and poet, left his mark on Arabic literature for centuries. Most of his work, however, has so far only been available in manuscripts or highly deficient prints. The aim of the project is therefore to present, in addition to the collection of his poems (Dīwān), twelve further works in first editions or first reliable editions. The poems of the Dīwān pose a particularly great challenge due to repeated revisions. Here, the focus will be on a digital edition that makes the different versions of the poems directly visible. The other works will also be digitally accessible alongside the printed edition. Thus, the complete works of this important poet will be available and digitally searchable, laying a reliable foundation for research into the literature of the Mamluk and Ottoman periods.
