This basic study is to seek for better ways to incorporate multiculturalism into educational practice in Japan, as we must solve lots of issues cultural diversity has produced. The increasing racial, ethnic, cultural, and language diversity in our society, and the growing recognition and legitimization of diversity, are causing educators to rethink citizenship education and reading and language arts education. The worldwide ethnic revitalization movements are challenging assimilationist notions of citizenship education and insisting that diverse cultures be reflected in the school curriculum. However, every pluralistic nation-state must also be concerned about unity and a set of shared values that will cement the commonwealth.Our group was undertaking a project to develop research and theory based reports for implementing citizenship education and reading and language arts programs in collecting and comparing curricula, textbooks and teaching plans in the United States and United Kingdom.Our tasks of this year were :1)Analyzing some states' frameworks in the United States and national curriculum of United Kingdom,2)Analyzing textbooks, teaching materials, teaching plans and observed classroom data,3)Making presentations at some academic conferences,4)Publishing a final report.

这项基础研究是为了寻求更好的方法将多元文化主义融入日本的教育实践中，因为我们必须解决文化多样性产生的许多问题。我们社会中种族、民族、文化和语言多样性的日益增加，以及对多样性的日益认可和合法化，正在促使教育工作者重新思考公民教育、阅读和语言艺术教育。世界范围内的民族复兴运动正在挑战公民教育的同化主义观念，并坚持在学校课程中反映多元文化。然而，每个多元化的民族国家也必须关注团结和一套共同的价值观，以巩固联邦。我们小组正在开展一个项目，为实施公民教育以及阅读和语言艺术项目制定研究和理论报告，收集和比较美国和英国的课程、教科书和教学计划。今年我们的任务是：1）分析美国一些州的框架和美国的国家课程 Kingdom，2）分析教科书、教材、教案和观察的课堂数据，3）在一些学术会议上做报告，4）发布最终报告。
