Study on the Dynamics of Arab Social Transformation - Focus on Collection and Analysis of Panel Data

该项目的主要目的是为阿拉伯国家社会经济实证研究建立数据库；特别是埃及和约旦，这两个国家目前正面临严重的社会和经济问题。为此目的，该项目的重点是收集和整理通过在最小的行政单位：村镇进行社会调查获得的以家庭为基础的微观数据。面板数据是每隔几年对有关住户进行重复调查而形成的，并用于分析住户层面的社会和经济变化。这种方法不仅有效地澄清了有关户主的静态经济行为；消费模式、储蓄模式、就业模式等，还有经济生活的动态变化、生命周期等。部分研究成果已在收集的以户为单位的微观数据基础上发表。

The main aim of this project is to construct a database for the empirical study on the social economy in the Arab countries; especially Egypt and Jordan that are now facing severe social and economic problems. For this aim, the project focused on collecting and panelizing household-based micro data obtained by conducting social surveys at the smallest unit of administration: village and towns. The panel data are constructed by repeating the survey of the households concerned after several years, and used for analyzing the social and economic changes at household level. This method is effective to clarify not only the static economic actions of the heads of the households concerned; patterns of consumption, saving, employment and so on, but also the dynamics of the changes in economic life, life cycle and so on. Some parts of the research results has already been published based on the collected household-based micro data.
