Researches on the northern studies have been conducted among universities, museums and research institutes in China, Scandinavian countries and Canada. The purpose of the research was to collect information on the current trends of northern cultural studies and to establish an international network for the exchange of scientific information.In China, Inner Mongolia University and Inner Mongolia Museum were visited. In Denmark, University of Copenhagen, National Museum of Denmark, Danish Polar Center were investigated. In Finland, the National Museum of Finland, National Board of Antiquities, University of Lapland ; in Sweden, University of Stockholm, Folkens Museum of Etnografiska, Nordiska Museet ; in Norway, University of Oslo, Norsk Folkemuseum, University of Trondheim, Trondheim University Museum, Tromso Museum, University of Tromso, etc.were investigated.In Canada, those research organizations were studied : University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, Canadian Circump … More olar Institute, University of Alberta, the Arctic Institute of North America, University of Calgary, the Glenbow Museum, University of Toronto, Universite de Laval, Center for Northern Studies and Research, McGill University, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.The information includes (1) purposes and goals, (2) administration, (3) research systems and programs, (4) educational systems and programs, (5) results of research (publications, exhibits, lectures, etc.), (6) ethnological, archeological, linguistic, bibliographical collections, and (7) problems and future plans.As a result, it is cleared that each country has its own specific problems, such as those of Greenland Eskimo in Denmark, those of Saami in Finland, Sweden and Norway, and those of Inuit and Indians in Canada. However, it is also made clear that there are issues faced with in common among research organizations, such as the attitudes toward the studies of minority populations, issues of returning the cultural collection to indigenous peoples, the enrichment of educational programs, and budgetary problems.
