今次研究課題の下では、工業化以後、近代国民国家の縁辺空間から大都市地域に来住した民族集団が形成した社会空間=集住地区として、神奈川県川崎・鶴見地区に注目し、次のような作業と考察を行った。1.当該地域での朝鮮半島・沖縄出身者の定着過程をマスレベルで把握し、事例地域の空間構成を知るために、近代期に発行された統計・文書類あるいは当時の状況を記載した市史、地形図や都市商工地図等の資料を、東京・横浜・川崎の図書館や古書店等で検索し、入手した。これらの収集資料の整理・分析により、民族集団の当該地域への定着過程や当該地域に付与されてきた社会的イメージ、民族集団の活動を制約する枠組としての近代期の鶴見・川崎の都市空間の形態や様相についての知見を得た。2.近代期の川崎・鶴見での、沖縄・朝鮮半島出身者の個別的な生活史・空間的行動形態・生活感覚を探り、都市空間における民族性と固有の空間認識・場所感覚との関係の有無を主体の側から検証する目的で、ヒアリングを行った。調査対象は、鶴見沖縄県人会・韓国民団川崎支部に関係し居住歴の長い、10数名の沖縄・朝鮮半島出身者であった。本調査での知見として、戦前・戦後期の彼ら固有の行動空間や記憶の場所の生成が、都市社会の下位階層が持つ意味の体系を踏まえた形で行われていたと推察される事例を、少数ながらも得たことが挙げられる。しかし他方で、朝鮮半島・沖縄出身者層は近代期から現在までの間に帰国移動や居住地移動を経験しあるいは死去しており、今次の研究目的に合致した調査対象者を見出すことはそれだけ困難を極めた。そのため今回、都市空間の中での民族集団に固有の行動空間や象徴的な場所の存在を十分に明示するには到らず、これに関しては、追加調査や関連資料の再検証が必要である。なお、本課題の研究成果を学会誌に投稿する予定である。
