The aim of this project is to study solar coronal phenomena, particularly solar flares, by combining the X-ray data from the YOHKOH satellite and the ground-based optical observations. T.Sakurai visited Beijing and Nanjing and discussed instrumentation for the observations of the sun. We invited four Chinese scientists to Tokyo. H.Zhang studied a three-dimensional configuration of solar flares observed consecutively at the limb and on the disk. C.Fang studied the magnetic field structure and coronal heating properties of an active region. Y.Tang studied the magnetohydrodynamical instability of solar prominences. H.Wang studied the expansion of coronal magnetic fields with height and compared the results with the X-ray observations.
