1.文献調査喪失と日本人女性の心理特性についての関連を分析した和文文献を検索し、文献調査を行った。その結果、周産期の喪失と日本人女性の心理特性を記述した、研究文献はほとんどなかった。2.面接調査T病院で1989年2月から1992年8月までに死産・新生児死亡を経験し、筆者が実際に看護した母親25名で承諾の得られた対象者10名に対して、面接調査を実施し、死産・新生児死亡によるグリーフ・ワークに及ぼす看護要因について質的に分析した。分析方法は、死産・新生児死亡で入院していた時の状況やその時の心情を想記して語ってもらい、その面接の内容を記述した。また、前回の研究結果から、死産・新生児死亡によるグリーフ・ワークに及ぼす看護要因を1)児との面会、触る、抱っこ、着衣など、現実認識を促すために実施した看護要因、2)院内での焼香、お別れ会、葬儀への参加などのセレモニーに関する看護要因、3)夜間の家族の付き添い、24時間の面会時間、上の子どもの面会など家族に関する看護要因、4)看護婦の言動要因、の4つのカテゴリーに分類した。そして、構成要素を統合・修正しながらコーディングをすすめ、主要なテーマを明らかにした。その結果、児との面会、抱っこ、着衣、お別れ会、葬儀への参加などが鮮明な記憶として残っており、グリーフ・ワークを成し遂げる上で効果的であると思われた。また、面会や抱っこなどを実施する際、初めから母親自身で意志決定したのではなく、看護師の積極的なそれらについての意義の説明や、児の表情や形態、性別などの説明が意志決定の誘因になっているようであり、前回の調査結果と同様の結果を得た。また、看護師の説明のなかで、「夫婦の気持ちの差異」のの説明は、母親がグリーフ・ワークを成し遂げる上で、重要であった。
