项目摘要

本年度の主たる研究実績は次の2点にある。1.地域集団にとっての巡礼の創造と実践の意味を明らかにした。2.巡礼データベースを用いて計量的な比較研究を行なった。1は巡礼の創造(提示)と実践(受容)の相互交渉を質的に研究するもので、本年度は関東三十六不動霊場の創設・運営者(僧侶)による巡礼者への働きかけ、篠栗新四国霊場における巡礼地創造の過程、四国遍路における巡礼者の体験、山形県遊佐町藤崎地区における巡礼の構造などを調査した。最も重点的に取り組んだのが最後に挙げた藤崎地区の巡礼構造であり、巡礼者個々人ではなく、巡礼者を出す集団に着目し、他の儀礼(年中行事や人生儀礼)や組織との関連から、巡礼が地域で活用される様式、特にジェンダーに基づく巡礼の使い分けを明らかにすることができた。これについては日本民俗学会第57回年会にて「おまいり文化考」として発表した。2については前年度の千葉県・茨城県に引き続き静岡県と愛媛県の巡礼データを収集した。地域の選択は作業者の専門的な知識に由来している。また、この2年間で地方自治体史誌から収集した巡礼データ計約600件を整理して、試験的に巡礼データベースを作成し、計量的な処理を加えて検討を行なった。これにより、千葉県と茨城県は「大師送り」「新四国霊場」「観音巡礼」が盛んであるのに対して、静岡県は「参詣」「観音巡礼」、愛媛県は「四国遍路」「新四国霊場」が盛んであるといった具体に、目本列島の諸地域における巡礼の多様性を量的に確認することができた。実証性の確保には未だ課題が残されているが、この巡礼データベースを参照することによって上記四地域の状況が素早く把握できたため、先の1における藤崎地区の地域的な特性に気づくことができた。量的研究に質的研究の実証性を高める効果があることがわかった。
