鼻茸上皮では上皮細胞間隙の破断と上皮細胞増殖因子受容体erbB1、erbB2、erbB3の陽性所見が認められた。リアルタイムPCR法ではerbB1、erbB2、erbB3、のmRNAが検出された。またこれらの活性化型であるリン酸化erbB1とリン酸化erbB2の発現も認められた。以上より鼻茸形成の機序には、鼻茸上皮細胞間が破断して上皮細胞増殖因子受容体であるerbB1とerbB2、特にerbB1が活性化する機序が関与している可能性が示唆された。
